Brief Synopsis:
Do we ever really know our parents? Do we want to? Really? Two sisters are about to find out when they discover a hat box hidden in the back of their recently deceased father's closet. What sits inside sends them off on an impromptu road trip to visit eccentric Aunt Esther and on an increasingly wild ride down memory lane. With surprising twists and hilarious turns, this brand-new comedy of family lore revels in the bizarre and beautiful mysteries that make up a life.
Roles: 4 women and 1 man
Claire - The younger of the two sisters, Claire is "The One Who Got Away." Pragmatic, grounded, and sometimes a bit tightly wound, Claire is focused on efficiency and getting through the tasks at hand—especially when it comes to sorting through their father’s belongings. Portrayed as 40s-50s female.
Winnie - The older sister, Winnie is "The One Who Couldn't Stay Away." With an eye for the sentimental, Winnie is more willing to embrace the chaotic mess of their father's life and the family history buried within it. Often at odds with Claire’s more organized approach, Winnie’s emotional side and sense of humor shine through, making her the perfect counterpart to her sister as they unravel the mystery of the hatbox. Portrayed as 40s-50s female.
Aunt Esther - "A Woman Who Knows How To Stir," Esther is the sisters’ lively, sharp-tongued, and highly unpredictable aunt. She has a knack for embellishing stories, recalling memories that could be classified as questionable, and adding fuel to the fire. While her tales may not always add clarity to the situation, they certainly add color and comedy. Portrayed as 70s-80s female.
Stanley - "A Man Who Doesn't See What's Coming," Stanley is the former best friend of Claire and Winnie’s father. Oblivious and cheerful, Stanley brings a sense of warmth and a surprising depth to the unfolding drama. Portrayed as 60s-70s male.
Marsha - "A Chipper Chirpy Woman Who Ponders," Marsha is Stanley's new wife, adding a fresh dynamic to the mix. Though seemingly light-hearted and cheerful, Marsha has a quiet curiosity that makes her a gentle observer of the unfolding family drama. Potrayed as 40s-60s female.
